What residents are asking for

Residents want an objective, independent assessment of whether repair or rehabilitation could safely extend the existing structures' service lives before complete replacement becomes irreversible.

The neighborhood explored professional independent evaluations during 2026. Chen Moore / KCA discussed bridge inspections, an independent condition assessment, potential rehabilitation strategies, service-life extension, and an opinion of probable construction cost. Marlin Engineering separately prepared an April 2026 proposal for an objective third-party bridge evaluation focused on maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement alternatives.

Residents are concerned that significant elevation increases could create larger ramps, grading transitions and concrete mass inconsistent with existing West Lake Drive.

Residents question the need for large bridge sidewalks where there is no connecting neighborhood sidewalk network.

The position the Harbor Beach Association has developed over the course of the project is that, if a sidewalk is required, one appropriately sized sidewalk should be considered rather than two.

Residents want bridge railings, lighting, columns, utilities and other visible elements to remain residential in character rather than appearing like highway infrastructure.

Residents want careful consideration of approach grading, driveway transitions, drainage, landscaping, and impacts on properties immediately adjacent to the bridges.

Residents have requested clear and consistent information regarding project costs, funding, schedules and applicable deadlines.
